Bridgton homeowners call Aces Highlands for leak detection & repair because we are close by, based at 508 Riverside St Unit 1 in Portland, and out on Cumberland County roads every day — we know this area's housing, weather and permit process cold.

Water leaks can cause significant damage if not addressed quickly. Aces Highlands provides fast leak detection and repair services that stop the damage and fix the problem right the first time.

Whether it is a dripping faucet, a leaking pipe under the sink, a toilet that will not stop running, or a more serious water line issue, we locate the source of the problem accurately and make a lasting repair. If your leak involves a failing water heater, we can diagnose and address that too.

We repair copper, PEX, PVC, and galvanized piping. For older homes with failing pipe systems, we can recommend and perform partial or full repiping to prevent recurring leak issues.

Quick response matters with leaks. Water damage gets worse by the hour and can lead to mold, structural damage, and costly repairs. Contact us as soon as you notice a leak and we will get it handled.

Bridgton Homes and What They Need

Bridgton is really two housing markets. Census estimates count about 4,600 homes, and nearly half, around 2,200, are held for seasonal or recreational use: camps and cottages on Long Lake, Highland Lake and Moose Pond, where shorelines are heavily built with cabins and houses. The year-round stock is younger than the coast's, with a median build year of 1985, about 11 percent built before 1940 and nearly a third added since 2000. Mobile and manufactured homes are notable at about 14 percent of units. Many lake camps were built for July, not January, with shallow crawlspaces, exposed piping and small electric services. When families start using a camp through foliage and ski season, a mini-split heat pump for a lake camp is often the first step toward winter use.

Water Supply and Drains in Bridgton

The Bridgton Water District supplies the downtown area, and in 2024 the town opened a new wastewater treatment plant on McKegney Way. The old system treated only gray water from a small part of downtown; the roughly $26 million expansion, largely funded through USDA Rural Development, was planned to grow the system from about 207 users to 655. Everywhere else, including nearly all lake frontage, homes rely on private wells and septic systems, and lake groups stress septic maintenance because phosphorus runoff feeds algae. Seasonal camps have to be drained and winterized each fall; a missed trap or a pipe in an unheated crawlspace is the classic spring surprise. Good leak repair after a freeze-up starts with finding every run the drain-down missed.

Getting to Know Bridgton

Bridgton is home to Pleasant Mountain, the oldest major ski area in Maine — its first rope tow opened to the public in January 1938, and after a stretch as "Shawnee Peak" from 1988 to 2022, the mountain got its original name back. The town has a literary claim too: Stephen King lived in Bridgton in the late 1970s and set his novella "The Mist" in a fictionalized version of the town.

Lakes Region living means camps, cottages, and year-round homes that all heat and cool differently. From ski-season rentals to lakefront family places, we size and install systems that match how Bridgton properties are actually used.

Local & Independent — Not a Franchise

We are an independent, Portland-based company, not a franchise chain routing your Bridgton job to a call center. Our techs are paid to do the job right, not to upsell — no commission structure pushes them toward extra work. Getting invited back is the only metric that matters here.

How a Pipe Leak Happens

  1. Supply line — pressurized water inside the wall
  2. Shutoff valve — closing it stops flow to the leak
  3. Pinhole leak — sprays fast under pressure
  4. Water damage — spreads quickly once a line fails

Homeowner Guide

Pipe Leaks: Finding Them Before They Find You

Because supply lines run under constant pressure, a leak rarely announces itself gradually — it's either a slow, hidden problem building for weeks, or a sudden failure that's obvious immediately. Here's how to tell which one you're dealing with.

In Bridgton, plumbing permits come from the Local Plumbing Inspector at the Town of Bridgton Code Enforcement Office (3 Chase St., Suite 1, Bridgton, ME 04009, (207) 647-8786 (main) / (207) 803-9963 (direct)). Highland Lake runs from downtown Bridgton north to the Sweden town line and drains through Stevens Brook in the village; Long Lake sits east of town and Moose Pond spans Bridgton, Denmark and Sweden to the west — three major lake shorelines put a large share of Bridgton's parcels under Maine Shoreland Zoning.

How Aces Highlands Handles Leak Detection & Repair in Bridgton

  • With a median year built of 1985 and 11% of homes older than 1940, Bridgton still has plenty of galvanized and early-copper supply lines behind the walls, which changes how we approach a leak detection & repair.
  • Bridgton Water District supplies most of Bridgton; we handle everything downstream of that meter, fixture by fixture.
  • We file for a permit at the Town of Bridgton Code Enforcement Office whenever the work calls for one, and build it to the 2021 Uniform Plumbing Code.

We highly recommend Highlands Heating & AC. They are extremely responsive, knowledgeable and do great work. Our boiler stopped working and Elijah was quick to respond after hours on a Friday. He installed a new boiler and heat pump hot water heater.

He was very friendly. He gave me an honest explanation on why I shouldn't recharge my A/C unit and what he suggested made much more sense. He really took care of everything. He is very professional, always called me with updates. 5 stars is not enough — I give this company 10 stars.

We have called Samuel for our electrical needs over the last few years and have always been impressed with professional and courteous attitude — installing extra outlets, installing new lights and ceiling fans, our whole house generator, charger for the electric car, even the hot tub!!! His price was fair, and never disappointed when work was completed.

Leak Detection & Repair FAQs

What are the signs of a hidden water leak?

A higher-than-normal water bill, the sound of running water when fixtures are off, a spinning water meter with everything closed, musty smells, damp or warm spots on floors, and stains on ceilings or walls are all common signs of a hidden leak. If you notice any of these, have it checked promptly — leaks only get worse.

Why did my water bill suddenly spike?

A sudden spike is most often a running toilet, which can silently waste over 200 gallons a day, or a hidden supply-line leak. An easy first check: put food coloring in the toilet tank and see if it appears in the bowl without flushing. If the toilet checks out, call a plumber to trace the leak.

What should I do first if a pipe bursts?

Shut off your main water valve right away — it is usually located where the water line enters your home or near the meter. Then open faucets to drain pressure from the lines, move belongings away from the water, and call a plumber. The faster the water is off, the less damage you will have.

Can you repair the leak or will you push a whole repipe?

We repair the leak in front of us. As a local company, our technicians are not commissioned salespeople — we only recommend repiping when a pipe system is genuinely failing in multiple places, and we will show you the evidence either way. Most leaks are a straightforward, permanent spot repair.

How quickly can you respond to a leak in the Portland area?

We prioritize active leaks because water damage compounds by the hour. Call (207) 670-8616 and we will get a technician to your home as fast as the schedule allows — same-day in many cases across Portland and Southern Maine.
