Lebanon was incorporated on June 17, 1767, making it Maine's 23rd incorporated town, and Wikipedia describes it plainly as 'the westernmost town in Maine.' It borders Acton, Sanford, Berwick and North Berwick on the Maine side, and Milton and Rochester, New Hampshire, on the other.

The town's population grew from about 1,150 in 1930 to more than 6,400 by 2020, with most of that growth arriving after 1980. Lebanon is drained by the Little River and the Salmon Falls River, the latter forming part of the state line with New Hampshire.
