Leak Detection & Repair for Falmouth Homeowners

Falmouth homeowners call Aces Highlands for leak detection & repair because we are close by, based at 508 Riverside St Unit 1 in Portland, and out on Cumberland County roads every day — we know this area's housing, weather and permit process cold.
Water leaks can cause significant damage if not addressed quickly. Aces Highlands provides fast leak detection and repair services that stop the damage and fix the problem right the first time.
Whether it is a dripping faucet, a leaking pipe under the sink, a toilet that will not stop running, or a more serious water line issue, we locate the source of the problem accurately and make a lasting repair. If your leak involves a failing water heater, we can diagnose and address that too.
We repair copper, PEX, PVC, and galvanized piping. For older homes with failing pipe systems, we can recommend and perform partial or full repiping to prevent recurring leak issues.
Quick response matters with leaks. Water damage gets worse by the hour and can lead to mold, structural damage, and costly repairs. Contact us as soon as you notice a leak and we will get it handled.
Why Falmouth Calls Aces Highlands
- A Cumberland County crew that already knows Falmouth's streets and housing stock
- Diagnostics come first, upsells do not — the invoice matches the quote
- Most requests land a visit within days, not the following month
- Fully licensed, fully insured, and reviewed by real customers on Google
Falmouth Homes and What They Need
Falmouth's housing is younger than most of Greater Portland. Census estimates put the median home here at 1986, and roughly 14 percent of homes have been built since 2010, many of them in newer subdivisions. The older layer is still real: about 14 percent of homes predate 1940 and about four in ten predate 1980, from Falmouth Foreside along Route 88 to West Falmouth Corner and Highland Lake. Around 80 percent of homes are single-family detached houses, and most are owner-occupied. In practice that means two very different kinds of job in one town: a newer colonial with PEX, a mechanical room and room for ductwork, and a Foreside house with copper or galvanized supply lines, tired shutoff valves and pinhole leaks that need tracing behind finished walls.
Water Supply and Drains in Falmouth
The Portland Water District supplies drinking water in Falmouth, drawn from Sebago Lake, but sewer is the town's own. Falmouth's wastewater department runs about 58 miles of gravity sewer and force main, 33 pump stations and a 1.56 million gallon per day treatment plant on Clearwater Drive that discharges to the Presumpscot River estuary and Casco Bay; the plant also treats wastewater from Cumberland. The collection system follows Route 1 and Route 88 in the east and reaches Route 100, Winn Road and Falmouth on the Green in the west, so homes beyond it generally rely on septic systems and, where the water mains stop, private wells. Across Cumberland County more than 17 percent of tested private wells have exceeded Maine's arsenic guideline. For a busy household, an on-demand tankless water heater is one way to free up space in a finished basement.

Getting to Know Falmouth
The original town of Falmouth once encompassed what are now Portland, South Portland, Westbrook, and Cape Elizabeth — those communities were all carved out of it over time. Just offshore, Mackworth Island was Governor Percival Baxter's family retreat before he deeded it to the State of Maine in 1943; today it is famous for the "fairy houses" visitors build in its woods and for Baxter's stone-walled memorial to his Irish Setters.
Modern Falmouth is known for well-kept homes with high-end finishes — the kind of properties where clean line-set routing, tidy penetrations, and spotless job sites matter. That is how we work.
Local & Independent — Not a Franchise
Aces Highlands is a locally owned Portland, Maine company serving Falmouth — not a national franchise. Technicians are not on commission, so the recommendation you get is the one your house actually needs. We do the work you called us for, do it right, and earn the next call. That is the whole business model.
How a Pipe Leak Happens
- Supply line — pressurized water inside the wall
- Shutoff valve — closing it stops flow to the leak
- Pinhole leak — sprays fast under pressure
- Water damage — spreads quickly once a line fails

Pipe Leaks: Finding Them Before They Find You
Because supply lines run under constant pressure, a leak rarely announces itself gradually — it's either a slow, hidden problem building for weeks, or a sudden failure that's obvious immediately. Here's how to tell which one you're dealing with.

- Every Maine municipality must annually appoint at least one Local Plumbing Inspector (LPI), who does not have to live in that town, to issue plumbing permits and enforce the state's plumbing rules and Subsurface Wastewater Disposal (septic) rules locally. mainelegislature.org
How Aces Highlands Handles Leak Detection & Repair in Falmouth
- With a median year built of 1986 and 14% of homes older than 1940, Falmouth still has plenty of galvanized and early-copper supply lines behind the walls, which changes how we approach a leak detection & repair.
- Most Falmouth addresses are on Portland Water District water, drawn from Sebago Lake — the pipes, valves and fixtures on your side of the meter are what we service.
- Anything that needs a permit gets one through the Falmouth Code Enforcement Division, built to the 2021 Uniform Plumbing Code Maine adopted in 2022.

We have called Samuel for our electrical needs over the last few years and have always been impressed with professional and courteous attitude — installing extra outlets, installing new lights and ceiling fans, our whole house generator, charger for the electric car, even the hot tub!!! His price was fair, and never disappointed when work was completed.

I can not recommend Sam and his team enough!! In a world of slow response times and cut corners they went above and beyond in every area, installing a new electrical panel for me. Their attention to detail and love of their craft truly sets them apart from the rest!

Where to begin? These guys hooked up a sauna for me and did an amazing job, it was not a small job. Projects big or small, these guys are my go to. Responsive, reasonably priced, and professional. In a world where it is tough to get good service, I'm thrilled to have these guys in my phone.
Leak Detection & Repair FAQs
What are the signs of a hidden water leak?
A higher-than-normal water bill, the sound of running water when fixtures are off, a spinning water meter with everything closed, musty smells, damp or warm spots on floors, and stains on ceilings or walls are all common signs of a hidden leak. If you notice any of these, have it checked promptly — leaks only get worse.
Why did my water bill suddenly spike?
A sudden spike is most often a running toilet, which can silently waste over 200 gallons a day, or a hidden supply-line leak. An easy first check: put food coloring in the toilet tank and see if it appears in the bowl without flushing. If the toilet checks out, call a plumber to trace the leak.
What should I do first if a pipe bursts?
Shut off your main water valve right away — it is usually located where the water line enters your home or near the meter. Then open faucets to drain pressure from the lines, move belongings away from the water, and call a plumber. The faster the water is off, the less damage you will have.
Can you repair the leak or will you push a whole repipe?
We repair the leak in front of us. As a local company, our technicians are not commissioned salespeople — we only recommend repiping when a pipe system is genuinely failing in multiple places, and we will show you the evidence either way. Most leaks are a straightforward, permanent spot repair.
How quickly can you respond to a leak in the Portland area?
We prioritize active leaks because water damage compounds by the hour. Call (207) 670-8616 and we will get a technician to your home as fast as the schedule allows — same-day in many cases across Portland and Southern Maine.
