Ceiling Fans & Fixtures
When Lisbon homeowners need lighting installation, Aces Highlands is the local team to call. We are based at 508 Riverside St Unit 1 in Portland — a short drive from Lisbon in Androscoggin County — so we respond quickly and know the homes, the weather, and the codes in your area.
Good lighting transforms a home. Aces Highlands installs indoor and outdoor lighting fixtures, recessed lighting, ceiling fans, and landscape lighting -- wired properly and looking great.
We install recessed lighting, pendant fixtures, chandeliers, under-cabinet lighting, and vanity lighting for kitchens, bathrooms, living rooms, and bedrooms. Every fixture is properly supported, wired, and switched. Pair new lighting with dimmer switches for complete control over your room ambiance.
Outdoor lighting improves safety, security, and curb appeal. We install porch lights, motion-sensor fixtures, landscape lighting, and pathway lights with weatherproof connections and proper circuit protection.
Ceiling fan installation requires proper electrical box support and wiring. If your home has older wiring that cannot support new fixtures, our rewiring services can bring your electrical system up to date. We install fans with or without lighting kits, wire them to separate switches for independent fan and light control, and make sure everything runs quietly and safely.

Lisbon Homes and What They Need
Lisbon's median home was built in 1973, notably newer than neighboring Lewiston or Auburn, with about 23 percent of units predating 1940 and 31 percent predating 1960 -- a mix of the old Worumbo Mill village core and later mid-to-late-20th-century growth around it. That newer housing still needs regular heat pump maintenance and system checkups as it ages.
Power, Storms and Wiring in Lisbon
Central Maine Power delivers electricity in Lisbon, and unlike some neighboring towns, Lisbon names its own Electrical Inspector directly rather than deferring everything to the state. That local point of contact tends to make permitting for a panel upgrade or new circuit more straightforward.
Getting to Know Lisbon
Lisbon grew up around the Worumbo Mill, a woolen manufacturer founded in 1864 that stayed a major local employer until it burned down in 1987. Three waterways run through town -- the Androscoggin River, the Sabattus River, and the Little River -- which shaped where the old mill village and its housing took root.
Lisbon is one of the few towns in the area that names its own Electrical Inspector directly on the town website, rather than routing everything through a general code office. It's also grown noticeably since the mill era: the median home here dates to 1973, meaningfully newer than the mill-city housing stock next door in Lewiston or Auburn.
Local & Independent — Not a Franchise
We are an independent, Portland-based company, not a franchise chain routing your Lisbon job to a call center. Technicians are not on commission, so the recommendation you get is the one your house actually needs. Getting invited back is the only metric that matters here.

Planning a Lighting Upgrade: Recessed, Outdoor & Smart
Lighting is the electrical job most homeowners do purely for how the house feels, not because something broke — which means it's worth getting a few technical details right the first time instead of living with a compromise.

Codes & Permits for Lighting Installation in Lisbon
Electrical work in Lisbon is licensed and permitted under Maine's Electricians' Examining Board, which adopted the 2026 National Electrical Code effective July 1, 2026. Lisbon names its electrical inspector directly on the town's Code Enforcement page: Jonathan Moreau, Electrical Inspector, phone 207-754-1149, based at the Lisbon Town Offices. The town's sewer system is run directly by Lisbon's own Public Works department rather than a separate regional district, per the town's sewer rate/ordinance pages.
- Maine's adopted GFCI amendment to NEC 210.8(F) carries forward the NEC's own Exception No. 1: 'GFCI protection shall not be required on lighting outlets other than those covered in 210.8(C).' maine.gov
- Replacing existing lighting fixtures is 'minor repair work' exempt from the state electrical permit; installing a new lighting circuit is not minor repair and needs a permit. maine.gov
- Maine's Electricians' Examining Board has adopted the 2026 edition of the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70), effective for all electrical installations commencing on or after July 1, 2026, subject to Maine's own amendments and exclusions set out in Chapter 120 (Electrical Installation Standards). The prior standard was the 2023 NEC, effective July 1, 2024. maine.gov
How Aces Highlands Handles Lighting Installation in Lisbon
- A straight fixture-for-fixture swap needs no state permit in Maine; a new lighting circuit does, and we handle that filing when a job calls for one.
- Outdoor and wet-location fixtures still get GFCI-protected circuits where the code calls for it — the fixture itself is the one thing Maine's GFCI rule doesn't separately require.

I can not recommend Sam and his team enough!! In a world of slow response times and cut corners they went above and beyond in every area, installing a new electrical panel for me. Their attention to detail and love of their craft truly sets them apart from the rest!

We have called Samuel for our electrical needs over the last few years and have always been impressed with professional and courteous attitude — installing extra outlets, installing new lights and ceiling fans, our whole house generator, charger for the electric car, even the hot tub!!! His price was fair, and never disappointed when work was completed.

This team was called in by my property management company for where I rent. Elijah and his team were professional, clear speaking. Good communicators gave me the real deal. Didn't give any runaround. I trust them and want to use them for my own projects.

I've had three HVAC issues over the past two years. Each time I call, Elija or the office picks up the phone, and my problem is fixed in 24 hrs. Their solutions always feel correct and honest. I cannot recommend them more.
Lighting Installation FAQs
Can a ceiling fan go where my light fixture is now?
Only if the electrical box is fan-rated. Standard light boxes cannot carry a spinning 40-pound fan safely. We check the existing box and, if needed, install a fan-rated brace box — a routine part of nearly every ceiling fan installation in an older home.
How much does recessed lighting cost to install?
Nationally, recessed LED fixtures typically run $150-$300 per light installed in an existing ceiling, with the price varying by attic access and wiring runs. Multi-light projects cost less per fixture. We quote your full layout in writing before we cut anything.
Are LED fixtures worth it over older lighting?
Yes, and at this point they are the default. LEDs use about 75% less energy than incandescent, last 15-25 times longer, and run cool. For recessed lighting, modern wafer LEDs also install in shallow ceilings where old cans never could.
Why do my new LED lights flicker on the dimmer?
Almost always an incompatible dimmer — older incandescent-style dimmers do not play well with LED drivers. Swapping in an LED-compatible dimmer solves it. We match dimmers to your specific bulbs and fixtures as part of every lighting installation.
Do you install fixtures I purchased myself?
Gladly. Bring us the chandelier, pendants, or fan of your choice and we will install it properly — supported, wired, and switched. No markup requirement, no pressure to buy through us. We just want the install done right.
